The Why of Existence!
If you do a general search on the internet regarding how many people there are on Earth, you would get varying numbers between 7 Million, 7.5 or 8 Million. Regardless of which number it is, I think it is pretty safe to say that there are A LOT of people on plant Earth. With such a massive number of folks here, I believe it begs the question of why are we here. In other words, what is our purpose?
Some might argue that a more important question is “how”. How did we get here? Creation? Evolution? I don’t know and frankly, I am not overly concerned with the second question as I don’t think we will ever definitely know such answer. We are here. Here in the world, on the planet we call Earth all 7-8 billion of us. But why?
This “why” is what most experts call purpose; our purpose for being here. Now, I don’t believe that we are born with some pre-ordained destiny that we must fulfill. Don’t get me wrong, I do believe, and science proves this to be the case, we are all born with certain genetic prepositions. But such predisposition does not mean a predefined destiny, in my book. Instead, it is SOLELY up to us to find out what the purpose is and to pursue it un-apologetically and with complete abandon. Now, I am not using this last word in the normal sense as having lack of control, reckless, but rather in the sense that our efforts are far reaching and unrestricted, that we have both feet on the gas pedal, pressed completely to the floor.
That stated, I do believe this very existential purpose for each of us is to accomplish something great. I don’t mean some general sense of greatness, but rather greatness in in a particular field, a particular area of our life, a particular role, a particular station in life. This can be a great mom or dad, a great leader, a great teacher, a great humanitarian, a great athlete, a great business man, a great doctor, a great lawyer, a great…. I think you get my point. To do anything less of greatness, I believe is a sheer waste of profound potential. Think of how different, how much different, our world, our lives with be without Jesus Christ, Muhammad Ali, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Albert Einstein, Micheal Jordan, Mike Phelps, Abraham Lincoln, Steve Jobs, Serena Williams, Pablo Picaco, or any of the innumerable folks that that demonstrated in one form or another what it means to achieve greatness.
